Online Safety

Computer networks are an important aspect of information, communication and technology education.  However, all connectable technology can present possible risks to the spiritual, moral, and social development and potentially the safety of children.

All people working in school have a duty to be aware of online safety and to know the required procedures. We recognise that e-safety highlights the need to educate pupils about the benefits and risks of using technology as well as our responsibility to provide safeguards.

At West Rise Community Infant School we take this duty seriously, all staff are taught safe practices as part of induction and during child protection training and updates.

Roles and Responsibilities

The ICT subject leader alongside the Head teacher and Governors takes responsibility for e-safety in conjunction with the Child Protection designated teacher.

The school’s ICT systems capacity and security is managed by East Sussex County Council :

‘As part of our broadband services for schools and our commitment to online safety, connectivity to the internet automatically includes filtered safe and secure access. This is delivered through the RM SafetyNet Plus service’

Staff using ICT and especially when bringing in files from home are expected to ensure that material contained in the file is fit for purpose and does not contain any offensive material.

Particular care must be taken when transferring data and in particular when school data is being used at home. This data and in fact any personal information about a child remains personal to that child and must not be shared outside of school.

Online Safety Education

Children will only be allowed to use the Internet when supervised by staff. In the event of email use, staff will check the year group email box before children access emails. Children are taught not to reveal personal details as appropriate to the needs of young children.

The School Website

The point of contact on the website is the school address.  Staff or pupils home addresses are not published. We would like our website to reflect the wonder of learning at West Rise however, children’s photographs can only be published with parents written agreement. Pupils’ full names will not be used anywhere on the website where there is a link to a photograph.
