Year Two - Spring Term 2 2025
Welcome back to Term 4! Can you believe we are over half way through the school year already? Time really does fly when you’re having fun!
Thank you to all parents who came to our Parent Consultations this term. It was really lovely to meet with you all and keep you up-to-date with all your children’s achievements so far. If you haven’t yet met with your child’s class teacher, please do make an appointment.
We have welcomed the children back to a very busy and exciting term. This term Year Two have been transported to the fascinating ‘Land of ice and snow’. We have already begun our expedition by thinking about what we would need to survive on a polar expedition. We arelooking forward to learning all about the Polar Regions, the animals that live there and how the weather compares to the UK.
In English, we will have a storytelling focus and will be exploring some beautiful texts to help us with this, this first being ‘Leaf’ by Sandra Dieckmann. We will be encouraging the children to tell their stories before they write them, as research shows that if children can say it they can write it. Maybe you might like to share some stories at home too.In Maths, we will be learning about measure and fractions of numbers and shapes. We will also be recapping the children’s knowledge of the 4 operations.
In history and geography, we will focus to our exploration of Polar lands and finding out about what life is like there in comparison to here. In science, we will be learning about living things and their habitats. This term in PE, we will be focusing on fitness skills. In RE, we will explore why Easter matters to Christians. Later in the term we will move from polar lands to a country with a hotter climate, Ghana, with an exciting opportunity to connect with a school there - we can’t wait!
Please also check that your child’s spelling book is in their book bag, as the children use these regularly in school to practise their spellings, for their spelling test and to receive their new spellings for the following week.
Many thanks,
The Year 2 Team
