Reception Spring Term 1 - 2025
Happy New Year to you all! We would like to begin this newsletter with a huge thank you for all our lovely cards and presents at Christmas, they were very much appreciated and it was very generous of you all.
We have welcomed the children back to a very busy and exciting term. Our topic will be 'People Who Help Us' from Firefighters to Nurses, Police Officers to their very own Teachers. We have planned and selected a range of imaginative activities to spark discussions about helpful people in everyday life.
We have organised visits from firefighters, police officers and also a vet this term. This is used as an opportunity for different professions to come in and discuss how they help in the community. We are sure the children will be very excited about our visitors!
These visits will also help the children work on some core skills including:
• Questioning - asking guests relevant questions about their jobs.
• Listening - listening to the guests quietly and sensibly.
• Writing - labelling, questions, sentences and captions related to ‘People Who Help Us’.
• Understanding the world - people, culture and communities - our local community.
• Expressive arts and designs - painting, junk model making and role play experiences.
In Literacy, the children will be reading the story 'The Jolly Postman' by Janet and Allan Ahlberg and learning about different forms of writing, for example postcards, letters and invitations.
In Maths we will continue to secure our subitising, counting and number skills within 10 and beyond. We will bedeveloping our addition skills and comparing two different amounts. This will be achieved by counting on or by adding 2groups of objects. We will also be solving problems linked to doubling and sharing.
Following on from last term, you will continue to receive weekly planning and we will be delighted to read your comments and observations about your child’s learning, these are an important element of our partnership with you.
Alongside all of our learning is our complete immersion in a mindful approach to school life. The children will use all their senses, mindful breathing, massage and yoga to harness the full potential of a calm and focused brain.
In PE, we will be focusing on ball skills, starting with throwing and catching skills and then leading onto football later on in the term. The children are now familiar with the Sports Hall and will continue to navigate and use the space safely alongside their friends.
Thank you for your continued support,
The Reception Team
