Reception - Summer Term 2

Welcome back to the final Summer Term.  Goodness, hasn’t the year flown by?  Your children have made wonderful progress and we are confident that by the time July arrives they will be more than ready to embark on the next stage of their school life.

These seven weeks will be filled with lots of exciting learning experiences and fun! Our topic will be ‘Under the Sea’, the children will learn about water and sun safety. They will also learn interesting facts about sea animals and experience lots of fun interactive sea themed activities.

In Literacy, we will become authors and story tell our own version of the book ‘The Rainbow Fish’ by Marcus Pfister.  We will also be reading other books about creatures in the sea including ‘Sharing a Shell’, ‘The Snail and the Whale’ and ‘Shark in the Park’. This term we will be continuing to focus on developing our Phonics skills and writing words independently.

In Maths, we continue with fun practical Maths and Science investigations involving capacity and water. We will also be looking at odd and even numbers as well as lots of wonderful number songs.

Our featured artist this term is LS Lowry– he paints beautiful seascapes and boats. We will be creating salt dough fishes inspired by his work.

Our mindful curriculum is very much at the core as we prepare the children for their transition to Year One. Gratitude for all they have learned, gratitude for ’growing their brains’ and optimism and enthusiasm for what they are about to learn and experience in the future.  Thank you as always for all your support and for working in partnership with us.
