Year 2 - Autumn Term 2
Welcome back to Term 2! Can you believe we are nearing the end of 2024 already? This term we have said goodbye to our ‘Castles’ topic which we celebrated with a lovely banquet. We enjoyed Medieval music, dancing and with some children trying their hand at juggling and seeing if they could make the King and Queen laugh with their jokes! We would like to thank you so much for your engagement with our castle workshop, it was so lovely to see everyone working together so beautifully!
We are now on an exciting adventure to find out about ‘Dragons and Adventures’. We have been reading a story about an egg box dragon and will be designing it a comfortable home to live in, thinking of ways we can make our structures stronger!
In English we will be exploring lots of beautiful texts about dragons such as ‘The Adventures of Egg Box Dragon’, ‘The Snow Dragon’ and ‘Dragon Poems’. We will be using ideas from these to create our own stories and will also be ensuring we are secure in the important writing skills of spelling and punctuation. We will look at some wonderful dragon poetry and use our story voices to perform them to each other. We will be looking at ‘Edgar and Ava’ from a Christmas TV advert and using it to inspire our writing.
In Maths we are consolidating our knowledge of addition and subtraction, and developing our Maths Mastery approach. We will be starting each area of focus with a practical session and then building on this by representing pictorially and recording our work using a range of manipulatives to support us. As the term moves on we will also begin to look at 2D and 3D shape. We will also be continuing our counting patterns of 2s,5s,10s.
In DT we will be making a strong, comfortable home for our dragons. We will be exploring maps in Geography and learning how to mix colours in art, looking at different tones and shades. We will be learning about the artists Picasso and Mondrian. In computing this term, we will focus on being safe online. RE will focus on Christianity and why the Christmas story is important to Christians.
In science we will be investigating properties of materials and finding the best material for a specific job. We will we carrying out experiments, make predictions and record our results.
Our focus for Wellbeing this half term is perseverance and resilience, anti-bullying and celebrating being a Wise Old Owl learner at school and at home.
Also, thank you to those of you who came to Parent Consultations. It was so lovely to meet with you all and share how well your children have settled as we build their independence even further.
Please continue to support and encourage your child with reading, spellings and Friday Challenges at home, it really does make a difference.
Thank you for your continued support and encouragement.
